Sunday we sang the song, “Christ The Solid Rock,” which has
the following lyrics:
“My hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus' blood and righteousness;
I dare not trust the sweetest frame,
But wholly lean on Jesus' name.”
Than Jesus' blood and righteousness;
I dare not trust the sweetest frame,
But wholly lean on Jesus' name.”
This song captures the message of Colossians, namely, the
good news that Jesus Christ saves and grows sinners should lead us to trust in
Him alone for salvation and growth. This glorious news is the antidote to how
most people (including many professing Christians) approach the Son of God:
“My hope is built on something less
Than Jesus’ blood and righteousness;
I trust my skills, I trust my fame,
And maybe sometimes Jesus’ name.”
(Taken from Tim Chester, Steve Timmis, Total Church)
May you and I gladly swallow the antidote to the poison of self-justifying,
self-saving religion.
